Pangea Geotechnia (Pangea) is a foundation contractor based in Concepcion, Chile. Pangea has been a dedicated licensee of SBMA Ltd for several years, and the General Manager, Rafael Martinez Ascencio, has maintained a great friendship with Dr Mothersille throughout this time. Pangea is well established in Concepcion and offers services in both geotechnical design and construction. Recently, Rafael and his team have made significant breakthroughs in using pressure meter testing to derive geotechnical parameters, such as in situ soil stiffness. During the visit, Pangea delivered a presentation on the latest research and development in pressure meter testing. The company’s efforts were acknowledged by the receipt of the Menard Award for ‘Outstanding Papers’ at ISP8 (Luxembourg, 2-5 September 2025). Pangea’s enthusiasm and willingness to learn were also demonstrated by the company’s being one of the first to purchase Dr Mothersille’s textbook titled ‘Grout Soil and Rock Anchors’ when it was published in March 2025.
